The Origin of The Original Reikibear™
My Quest to Mount Kurama and The Original Reikibear™
In my room within The Odyssey Centre, I had various books, gifts, mementoes from friends, clients etc and a variety of small teddy bears, which I used as a 'tool' for patients to hug if they wanted whilst listening to their 'Odyssey' or long journey.
Most times these people would want to hold onto this little bear, asking me if they could take it home, and because of the risk of cross infection I was gifting bears at a very fast rate.
Simultaneously, I was sharing and teaching Reiki and asking Reiki students to bring along a surrogate to use for Reiki 11, and invariably it was a teddy bear. It was whilst in a mediation in our Sanctuary I was given the face of a little bear. I drew this out and sat with this for quite some time.
In April 2004, I finally made my spiritual quest to Mount Kurama. A three-week stay in Kyoto, and it was on a rare occasion on the peak of Kurama, that I received guidance for the further development of my bear. I sat stunned and very emotional, a feeling of peace and total connectedness as I sat amongst the huge roots of the cedar trees.

The Original Reikibear was finally ‘born’ in July 2004, and has slowly been spreading his way across the world. We now have bears in Italy, Scotland, and England. Until you have held him, and put him to use for distant healing you cannot find the words to describe the feeling. I never dreamed that the little drawing of the bear would evolve into something like this. I have my own Original Reikibear, and he sits with me as my companion, my confidante, and my friend to hold and touch and feel.
I realise that there are many reasons why the Original Reikibear has been born, and one of them is to help and support The The Odyssey Centre. We have been using our bear for distant healing with our client’s permission, and each therapy room contains an Original Reikibear.
The Original Reikibear™
We are living in times where healing for each other and ourselves is constantly needed. I feel that The Original Reikibear has been given as a gift, to help us all to look at ourselves, to become more gentle with ourselves, to take time to care for ourselves, to stop and slow down, become aware of just how important and unique we are. Each of us wherever we are, whatever country we live in, is on some level connected. We are all affected by wars, illness, and disease. We can all be affected too by joy, happiness and healing.
There is something very special about this little bear, the way his picture appeared in meditation, and the way the funds became available to have him made. I do believe that miracles happen when your intention is to help and heal. We all live in a palace of possibilities, and can be part of the solution instead part of the problem. My wish is that as many people as possible find their way to Reiki, and own an Original Reikibear, to help in whatever way they can to heal our world, and the people in it.
